Acupuncture for eczema is an effective way to treat this chronic inflammatory skin condition.
Eczema symptoms are characterised by red, itchy, and dry patches on the skin. These patches can occur anywhere on the body but are most commonly found on the hands, wrists, elbows, knees, ankles, face, and neck.
It is a common condition that can affect people of all ages. Eczema symptoms can vary in severity, with some individuals experiencing mild symptoms while others may have more severe flare-ups.
Conventional treatment for eczema aims to alleviate symptoms, reduce inflammation, and prevent flare-ups. The general advice is to regularly use moisturisers, avoid triggers and use topical corticosteroids or other medications when necessary.
From a Chinese medicine perspective eczema arises from a deficiency of defensive Qi which allows pathogens such as heat, wind and damp to take hold. Acupuncture is an effective way to clear these pathogens from the body and support the underlying deficiency. Treatment aims to restore balance rather than suppress symptoms.
