Women’s Health acupuncture in Brighton

Supporting women through every stage of life

Women today are navigating a complex and often demanding array of stresses and often contend with unique health concerns.

Women’s health is not a single condition or life stage. From the first menstrual cycle through fertility, pregnancy, motherhood, perimenopause and beyond, the body undergoes constant change.

Traditional Chinese Medicine has a long history of supporting women’s health throughout these transitions. Acupuncture offers a holistic approach that considers not only physical symptoms but also emotional wellbeing, stress levels, sleep, energy and overall quality of life.

Every woman’s experience is unique. Whether you’re navigating hormonal changes, trying to conceive, recovering after birth or adjusting to menopause, treatment is tailored to your individual needs and circumstances.

Hormones influence far more than the menstrual cycle. They can affect mood, sleep, energy, digestion, concentration and emotional wellbeing.

Hormonal health and menstrual well-being

Many women seek acupuncture for symptoms such as:

  • Painful periods
  • Irregular cycles
  • PMS
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Hormonal headaches
  • Mood changes
  • Fatigue

Traditional Chinese Medicine views the menstrual cycle as an important indicator of overall health. By identifying underlying patterns of imbalance, acupuncture aims to support a healthier and more comfortable cycle.

Fertility and conception support

Trying to conceive can be an exciting but sometimes emotionally challenging journey.

Fertility acupuncture is commonly used to support reproductive health, whether you are trying to conceive naturally or undergoing assisted fertility treatment such as IVF or IUI.

Treatment may help support hormone regulation, menstrual cycle health, stress management and overall reproductive wellbeing.

Pregnancy and birth preparation

Pregnancy brings significant physical and emotional changes, and acupuncture offers gentle, individualised support throughout every stage. Women commonly seek treatment for symptoms such as nausea and morning sickness, fatigue, anxiety, pelvic and back pain, sleep disturbances, and general preparation for birth. Many find that regular acupuncture appointments provide valuable support during a time of rapid change and adjustment.

As pregnancy progresses, treatment can be adapted to meet your changing needs. From around 36 weeks, pre-birth acupuncture is often used to help prepare the body for labour by encouraging relaxation, supporting cervical ripening, promoting optimal positioning of the baby and helping your body prepare for birth naturally. For women approaching or beyond their due date, induction acupuncture may also be used as part of birth preparation.

If your baby remains in a breech position later in pregnancy, moxibustion may be recommended. This traditional Chinese medicine technique uses the gentle warmth of mugwort near a specific acupuncture point, usually on the little toe, and is commonly used between 34 and 36 weeks to encourage optimal foetal positioning.

Postnatal recovery

The weeks and months after birth can be joyful, exhausting and overwhelming all at once. Acupuncture can play an important role in supporting recovery after birth, helping women navigate the physical and emotional demands of early parenthood.

Treatment may support:

  • Fatigue
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Recovery from childbirth
  • Stress and overwhelm

Traditional Chinese Medicine also includes specialised postnatal practices designed to support healing and replenishment after pregnancy and birth.

Perimenopause and menopause

Perimenopause and menopause represent another significant life transition.

Fluctuating hormone levels can contribute to symptoms such as:

  • Hot flushes
  • Night sweats
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Anxiety
  • Brain fog
  • Fatigue
  • Mood changes

Acupuncture offers a holistic approach that supports women through this transition while focusing on overall wellbeing rather than individual symptoms alone.

I went to Katy for help with severe symptoms of peri-menopause. She really listened to everything that’s going on. The best thing has been that after each session my sleep is much better, and anxiety is reduced, but it’s also helped with my joint pain and made me feel generally more able to cope with everything that’s going on. I do this in conjunction with HRT – definitely not mutually exclusive. I find Katy very professional and supportive and highly recommend her.

Anxiety, stress and emotional health

Women often carry multiple responsibilities and demands throughout different stages of life. Stress, anxiety and emotional exhaustion can affect physical health just as much as physical symptoms can affect emotional wellbeing. Acupuncture is frequently sought to support:

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Burnout
  • Sleep difficulties
  • Emotional regulation

Many patients describe acupuncture as providing a regular opportunity to slow down, reconnect with themselves and restore a sense of balance.

Living with chronic health conditions

Women are disproportionately affected by a number of chronic health conditions, including fibromyalgia and chronic pain syndromes. Acupuncture may help support symptom management, improve quality of life and provide a holistic approach to long-term health challenges.

I would highly recommend Katy for acupuncture treatment. She is knowledgable, listens carefully, is reassuring and supportive and her treatments significantly helped my health.

Every stage of life brings its own challenges, opportunities and changes. My aim is to provide a safe, compassionate and trauma-informed space where you feel listened to, supported and empowered in your healthcare choices.

Whether you’re seeking support for fertility, pregnancy, menopause, emotional wellbeing or chronic health concerns, acupuncture offers an individualised approach that recognises the whole person rather than simply treating symptoms.
